Accessibility

Our aim

Gemvale Labs wants everyone to be able to read the research we publish, whatever tools they use to read it. We build this site to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at conformance level AA, which is the standard most widely referenced for public websites.

Conformance status

This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard, and some parts do not yet. We publish this status rather than a claim of full conformance because conformance is something we measure and improve continuously, not a box that stays ticked.

What we have done

Every page carries a skip link, a main landmark, and a single page heading, so the content can be reached without tabbing through the navigation. Text and interface colors are checked against the WCAG contrast thresholds in each of the site's five visual styles. Search boxes, charts, tables, and menus are operable by keyboard alone and expose their state to screen readers. Animation is suppressed for visitors whose system asks for reduced motion.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following, and are working on them:

• Some data visualizations convey trends through shape and color; the underlying figures are available in the accompanying tables and tooltips, but not yet in every equivalent text form.
• Small interface controls, such as the visual style picker, meet the WCAG 2.1 requirements but are smaller than the larger target sizes recommended by WCAG 2.2.
• Research reports are generated automatically. Their structure is consistent, but we do not review every published report individually for accessibility.

Third-party content

This site may display advertising served by a third party. That content is created and delivered by the advertising network and its advertisers, is loaded into an isolated frame, and is not under Gemvale Labs's control — we cannot correct its colour contrast, its text alternatives, or any motion inside it, and it may not honour a reduced-motion preference. Our conformance claim above is therefore a statement of partial conformance: it covers everything on this site except third-party advertising content. What we do control, we do — each advertisement sits in a region we label "Advertisement", so it can be identified and skipped, and the space it occupies is reserved so it does not move the page around you. If advertising on this site creates a barrier for you, please tell us using the details below and we will raise it with the network or remove the placement.

How we test

Accessibility checks run automatically against every page, in every visual style, as part of the test suite that gates changes to this site. Automated testing catches a meaningful share of issues but not all of them, so it is supplemented by manual keyboard and screen-reader review.
